Altior acquired by Kaplan Professional
Legal training consultancy A|tior has been acquired by a leading professional training provider.
Founded in 1979, Altior is a market leader in management, advocacy and skills training for lawyers and has Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) accreditation.
Altior also runs management and business skills training courses for law firm management, partners, other fee-earners and support staff. The Professional Skills Courses (PSC) is a compulsory modular programme that trainee solicitors must complete in their two-year training contract.
Mark Loosemore, chief executive of Altior, said the deal strengthened the business and would provide Altior with the support of Kaplan’s extensive resources. Under the terms of the deal, Altior will now be known as Kaplan Altior.
Mr Loosemore said: “Kaplan is a huge company with huge expertise in professional development training and is the largest financial training provider in the UK already.
“Kaplan is happy for us to remain in Cardiff and there will be no redundancies. It wants us to grow a legal professional development division.
“What it means is that the Loosemore family are no longer having to invest. It is always difficult in a family business to make big investment decisions. Instead we have a very big company behind us to make relatively modest investment decisions and that should help us.”
Kaplan Professional is a part of Kaplan, which provides educational and career services for individuals, schools and businesses around the world. Kaplan, is itself a subsidiary of The Washington Post Company.
Peter Houillon, chief executive of Kaplan Professional, said: “Altior, well-known for its commitment to delivering the highest quality training and customer service, is an excellent strategic fit for Kaplan as we build a leading professional development business in the UK.
