Charity launches holiday home for children
A local charity that helps children affected by cancer and their families with practical and emotional support has announced development plans for a holiday home, which will be funded by a business partnership.
The Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children (NICFC) unveiled its ambitious plans to upgrade accommodation at its Shimna Valley House facility, just outside Newcastle Co Down, along with news that Northern Bank has chosen the charity as its Charity Partner for 2008, with all funds raised going towards the project.
The ten-bedroom house currently accommodates up to four families at any one time and the charity is hoping to re-model the existing building and provide two new ensuite bedrooms, subject to planning approval.
Northern Bank has kick-started a year-long partnership with NICFC by launching its new one year fixed rate Charity Bond. The bank will donate £5 for every bond opened to NICFC, to a maximum of £15,000.
Three hundred and fifty families used the Shimna Valley holiday home in 2007 and the charity says that with Northern Bank’s fundraising target of £80,000 even more families will be able to travel to the idyllic location for a much-needed break.
