Body Shop founder donated entire £51m fortune to charity
Dame Anita Roddick, the founder of The Body Shop who died last year, left nothing to friends and relatives in her will as she had already given it all to charities.
Details of her estate, revealed that she had donated her £51 million fortune to good causes before her death from a brain haemorrhage in September 2007.
Dame Anita, who was 64 when she died, once described leaving money to your family as "obscene" and said instead she wanted her fortune to go towards green issues and curing Third World poverty.
Dame Anita founded The Body Shop in March 1976 and sold the company for £625 million to French cosmetic giant L'Oreal in 2006.
As well as giving money to charities, Dame Anita was personally involved in innumerable good causes, lending her name, profile and passion to several successful campaigns.
